Look at the shop’s own location page, not a “coming soon” roundup. German-style and Turkish döner shops are concentrated in a few metro areas, and there is no complete national list.

- Döner Haus lists six open shops on its public location and menu page: Astoria, Bayside, East Village, Hell’s Kitchen, Sunnyside and Central LA. None closed. US franchise. Crispy Turkish pide, cabbage, garlic. Founded 2023. Seven or more already in construction, including West Palm Beach, Wantagh, Garden City Park, White Plains, Oxford, plus Connecticut and Riverside. 55 franchise commitments as of August 2026, company figure.
- GDK USA lists American Dream in East Rutherford, Astoria, Midtown Manhattan, Centereach, and Frisco on its US site. It sells US franchises. Toasted sesame waffle bread; the UK allergen page states that beef doner contains poultry. Sugar Land, Bay Ridge, Westfield and Brighton Beach are marked permanently closed — more US closures than Kotti has restaurants.
- DonerG lists six California shops in Anaheim, Irvine, Santa Ana, Lake Forest, and Long Beach in its official location directory. It identifies itself as Turkish and Mediterranean rather than specifically Berlin-style, which makes it a useful döner option without collapsing Turkish and German formats.
- Kotti Berliner Döner Kebab still lists six Manhattan and Brooklyn sites on its location page, including food halls and a Dean Street storefront. Independent; it does not sell franchises. The Dean Street restaurant is marked permanently closed. The remaining sites are food halls. The menu sells beer and wine with the sandwich. As of the latest public owner reply, the chicken is not certified halal.
- Doner Shack has no open US restaurant. It issued a US FDD and, as of 2026, is not selling US franchises. The franchise site says US enquiries are on hold, while listing 150 India master-franchise deals as signed. A signed unit in Prosper, Texas, is still “coming soonish.” You cannot eat there.
Those lists were checked in August 2026. Shops open and close, and plenty of places serve döner without putting “German” on the sign.
How to tell you found the right food
Read the operator’s own menu. Look for meat shaved from a vertical spit, then note the bread, vegetables, and sauces. A German-style sandwich often uses cut or toasted flatbread and cabbage or mixed salad. Turkish döner may appear as a plate, wrap, or sandwich. Greek gyro and Levantine shawarma share the machine but are different menu traditions.
Halal chicken-and-rice can be excellent without being döner. A waffle loaf does not make a UK chain the Berlin sandwich.

Confirm the address on the official location page on the day you go, then open that location’s current menu. If you care about the format, ask which meat is on the spit, whether it is sliced to order, and what bread and sauce come by default. If halal or allergens matter, ask those as separate questions.
