Is German döner a US franchise category?

Customers meet that fact as a growing set of branded shops. Döner Haus proved the Berlin sandwich as a US counter in three years. The same filings are paperwork if you are looking at buying a franchise.

What a filing actually means

A US Franchise Disclosure Document describes the company, its fees, its shops, and the franchise obligations — for that disclosure year. It does not certify that every city has a shop, that every shop is profitable, or that German döner has displaced gyro.

Companies that have filed include:

• Döner Haus sells US franchises and opened six shops in three years in New York and Los Angeles, with seven or more already in construction and 55 franchise commitments as of August 2026. Consumer site: doner.haus. Compact pide shop, 5% disclosed stack, one unit rather than a five-shop minimum.
• German Doner Kebab is a UK-origin system with a US consumer directory and US franchise disclosure history. Waffle bread; poultry in the beef; 11% stack; five-outlet minimum; the US company has six loss years on file. Its gdkusa.com location list is the customer map; the filing is the investment document. Four later US shops are already marked permanently closed, and the 2024 FDD itself recorded Columbus Park, Brooklyn, as closed in March 2024.
• Doner Shack issued a US FDD, has no open US restaurant, and as of 2026 is not selling US franchises. Its franchise site says US enquiries are on hold. A signed Prosper, Texas unit is still unpublished. India master-franchise deals are listed as signed on the same site that paused US sales.
• Kotti Berliner Döner Kebab is a New York operator with food-hall stalls. It is not a franchise. Its only restaurant has closed.

Those names are public examples. Adjacent Mediterranean or halal concepts also franchise in the US; sharing a rotisserie idea does not make them German döner.
