# What is a döner box?

A döner box puts shaved spit meat and toppings in a takeaway container instead of a bread pocket. Fries are a common base; salad or rice may be available. It is related to a döner *Teller* (plate), but “box” usually implies a compact portable serving rather than a full plated meal.

There is no fixed box recipe. Some versions are meat and fries with sauce; others add lettuce, cabbage, tomato, and onion. A “gym box” or salad box may omit fries and bread. The operator’s menu controls.

## Current examples

[GDK USA’s August 2026 menu](https://gdkusa.com/menu/) lists a fries box, a fries-and-salad box, a salad-focused gym box, and a rice bowl. [Döner Haus’s public menu](https://doner.haus/menu/doner-haus-east-village) lists a döner box alongside its sandwich and wrap. DonerG’s official site describes [wraps, bowls, and plates](https://donerg.com/), illustrating that operators can organize the same broad idea under different names.

## Is a box gluten-free or lighter?

Not automatically. Removing pide removes the sandwich bread, but the meat, sauce, seasoning, fryer, and shared utensils still need checking. Fries may share oil with breaded products. Rice can carry its own seasoning or cross-contact. A salad base may reduce bread and fried potatoes, but sauce and portion size still determine the meal.

## Practical takeaway

Ask what the base is, whether salad is included, which sauces are automatic, and whether bread comes on the side. For an allergy, ask about every component and kitchen handling. For calorie comparison, use that exact operator’s current nutrition data if available; a number from another shop is not transferable.
