# Is there a vegetarian döner?

Yes. Many shops sell a vegetarian item in the same bread-and-salad format, using falafel, halloumi, fried or grilled vegetables, or a plant-based patty. It is reasonable to call that a vegetarian döner-style sandwich on a menu, though traditional döner itself names meat cooked on a turning spit.

The alternatives are not equivalent. Falafel supplies a legume-based fried filling. Halloumi is cheese and therefore vegetarian but not vegan. Gemüse kebab may mean vegetables added to chicken, not a meatless item. A patty can contain wheat, soy, or other allergens.

## Vegetarian is not automatically vegan

Yogurt and feta contain milk; mayonnaise-style garlic sauce can contain egg; bread commonly contains wheat and may carry sesame. A plant-based filling can share a grill, fryer, knife, or prep surface with meat. Whether that matters depends on dietary practice and allergy risk, but the menu label does not answer it.

## Practical takeaway

Ask for the named filling and a full ingredient check: Is “vegetable kebab” meatless? Is the sauce dairy- or egg-free? Is the bread vegan? Are fryer or grill surfaces shared? A vegetable-and-salad box without meat may be available even where no replacement protein exists, but it is nutritionally different from falafel or a bean patty.
