## The one-paragraph version

German döner is the portable Turkish-German format associated with Berlin around the early 1970s: meat shaved from a vertical spit and served with bread, vegetables, and sauce. A single inventor cannot be established with confidence, and recipes did not travel unchanged. The [Museum of European Cultures](https://www.smb.museum/en/exhibitions/detail/doener-dienste-und-design-berliner-unternehmerinnen/) places the food within Berlin’s immigrant business history; today’s [GDK USA](https://gdkusa.com/menu/), [Döner Haus](https://doner.haus/), and [DonerG](https://donerg.com/) menus show three different US interpretations.
